Spare Time

As a mom have you ever had someone ask you “What do you do in your spare time?”

Whenever I am asked this question (which is usually at the beginning of each semester) I think to myself, what the hell is spare time? I barely have time to take a shower during the day let alone have spare time – I have growing to-do lists, screaming kids, a messy house, unpaid bills, and homework (I’m sure there is more but I can’t remember right now). My Rant About Nap Time

My little monster never (rarely) takes a nap for me.  She loves her mommy so much that she doesn’t want to close her eyes at all when I am around.  Nevermind the fact that I enjoy quiet time and I can accomplish a lot more when she is down for nap.  No, she parties hard when mommy’s around. More

Mom Needs Help

I need help. Not a sentence that most moms would say (out loud, to others). We like to believe that we can do it all by ourselves. Reality check…we can’t and we shouldn’t have to. More

Got Lemons? Make Cake

On Christmas a friend gave me a bag of lemons.  I put them in a bowl on the counter and have been staring at them ever since.  Today, I figured out what I was going to do with them – make zesty lemon pound cake! So, I got out the recipe, the ingredients, and suited up my helpers.

As we were making the cake I started to think about all of the other “lemons” that life can give to moms and how we can deal with these sour problems to turn them into delicious cake instead.  More

Organize Your Brain

I started the last semester of my undergrad degree this week which means that my life is back to being not just busy, but hectic. As I look at all of the upcoming homework assignments for the next four months I go through a major panic attack. How am I going to do all of this homework, plus take care of my family, plus work, plus everything else I need/want to do?

I’m addicted to my iPhone

I have a confession to make. I am addicted to my iPhone. I can’t leave the house without it. I am always on it. I love it. Sometimes I think my husband regrets the day he said I should get an iPhone. The list of reasons why, as a busy mom, I love my iPhone include:

Don’t do this to your friends

Driving home from school one night last week I got a text from my husband “Don’t freak out, child is cleaning a big mess.”  “Okay” I respond, trying to figure out what happened but not brave enough to ask. I do some mental preparations as I continue my drive home telling myself that it will be okay, it can’t be that bad. Then I walk in the door.

Mom’s Way of Using Time Wisely

In my opinion everyone has different takes on what it means to use time wisely.  For me as a mom, using my time wisely means knowing what I can do with my kids around and what I have to put off until they are asleep or out of the house with Daddy or some other brave soul who has offered to babysit.

Little Monster asleep during dinner

It took me a while to figure out which activities I could do with the kids and which I could not.  At first I tried to do everything with the kids around and I found myself extremely frustrated and ready to pull my hair out.  I decided to try something different and I would wait until nap time to attempt certain tasks on my to-do list and my stress level started to decrease.  Through trial and error I have finally figured out the best uses of my time with and without the kids.

The Clean House Solution

Last year my husband said one sentence to me that has forever altered my life.  He said, “I think we need a housekeeper.”  At first I was upset by his statement because I thought he was insulting my house cleaning abilities.  After getting over my initial reaction of being upset, I started to really think about what my husband had said.  It took me almost a whole weekend to clean my house and usually I had 2 little helpers who would get into the cleaning products or want to help which made cleaning take even longer.  Also, it was a huge chore for me to clean the house in between full time school, work, the kids, and running errands.  So I finally agreed to try a housekeeper and I am so happy that I did.  My housekeeper can clean my house in 2 hours!!!  I can’t even clean a bathroom that fast.
