I’m addicted to my iPhone

I have a confession to make. I am addicted to my iPhone. I can’t leave the house without it. I am always on it. I love it. Sometimes I think my husband regrets the day he said I should get an iPhone. The list of reasons why, as a busy mom, I love my iPhone include:

  1. I can keep track of my daily to-do lists and add to the lists as I remember something
  2. I can keep a running list of what I need from Costco, Target, etc…
  3. I can play games (Scrabble, Tetris, Sudoku to name a few) without pretending to let the kids win or having to feel bad when I win
  4. I can check my email without having to sit down at the computer
  5. I can check the weather to figure out what I should wear for the day
  6. I can check how the stock market is doing for the day (which I almost never check because I try to avoid bad news)
  7. I can set the alarm for afternoon naps so that I wake up in time to pick up the oldest from school
  8. I can take pictures of the kids when they are misbehaving without having to run and find the camera
  9. I can then send those pictures instantly to daddy so he can witness the misbehaving of the children
  10. I can take videos and instantly upload them YouTube and send out to others
  11. I can use the map for directions when driving which is very helpful because I am a horrible navigator
  12. I can listen to music (with headphones if I really want to ignore the kids)
  13. I can add movies to my Netflix queue as I think of them (Phone Flix app)
  14. I can download Netflix instant movies (Netflix app) for the kids to watch on those long car rides when they keep asking “Are we there yet?”
  15. I can stay up to date on Twitter
  16. I can manage my blog
  17. I can shop on Amazon
  18. I can also shop at any other store that has a website
  19. It is also a great toy for my little one who she is screaming and nothing else seems to calm her down
  20. Last, but not least the iPhone is great for making me look busy when I are waiting somewhere with a room full of strangers and don’t want them to talk to me.
  21. Oh, and one more reason… “There’s an App for that” (trademarked by Apple) so I can buy an app for anything else I want to do on my phone.

Thinking about it now, I spend a lot of time on my iPhone. I believe that every busy mom should have an iPhone but we need to figure out how to use them without becoming addicted. So, moms let’s find some balance with our phones.

Sesame street song (video): There’s an app for that

Are you addicted to your iPhone (or Blackberry or other type of smartphone)?  What activities do you usually find yourself doing on your iPhone? Can you put the phone down and find some balance?

That video was too funny!! But seriously, I am green with envy since I am still without smartphone *grumble*. Reading your list makes me want one even more and I still have a few weeks to go before I buy mine. Darn you and your iPhone!!!! 😉

After reading that you didn’t have one I started to think about all of the time I spend on my phone and it prompted this post. They are just so tempting and hard to stay away from…like chocolate or coffee. When you get your phone try not to get addicted like I did and let me know what kind you get and what your favorite part about it is.

Balance is very important. Some people get so consumed in their phones that they miss the cute things their kids do and the life going on around them. As a busy mom of three I love the “Lose It” app that allows me to quickly and easily track my daily calories and exercise to help me lose this “baby fat” that my youngest helped me acquire.

Hi Victoria, I do find myself sometimes missing out on what the kids are doing because I am too busy with my phone. Learning to put it down is hard but I’m working on it. Good luck with the weight loss.

Hi Jessica, I just couldn’t relate more. I too realized when I had my iPhone how impossible life would be without it. I use for almost the same reasons as you, and I guess, every mom as well. If you don’t mind, I’d like to recommend to all moms here my favorite app, Intuition. I thought it was just a to-do list app but it’s actually more. It helped me balance my schedule as a busy mom and never fails to remind me of my important tasks. I also love its Community feature where I can interact and get tips from other moms who use Intuition. You can download it for free on http://www.iconapps.com/product.htm
